A Thought for the Week

"Man is most nearly himself when he achieves the seriousness of a child at play." ~ Heraclitus "We do not stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing." ~ George Bernard Shaw "Play is the only way the highest intelligence of humankind can unfold." ~ Joseph Chilton Pearce "When we come together to play and be, we are truly ourselves. When we are truly ourselves it is wonderful, and when we act collectively in that wonder we do transformative work for our community and our world." ~ Brad Colby |
Hilda,
I love the Shaw quote - it's always been a real favorite of mine. Today, though, I'm really drawn in by the Brad Colby quote. It just really shows how much impact play can have, and where when we get into truly being ourselves - what that can lead to.

Hi Lance,
yes, that quote does really hit on the true power of play. It's kind of ironic, but I think we stop "playing games" with ourselves and others when we are totally absorbed in authentic play. As you said, what comes out of us during play is the real truth of who we are and where we're at in our lives.
